”For me, chado has been a way to explore my heritage and delve deep into Japanese history and culture. The club has been an amazing opportunity to make friends and connect with people who share my passion for the traditional arts. Having previously served as the Vice President for the 2022-2023 academic year, I intend on utilizing my experiences to lead the club to the best of my ability. My goal is to promote chado to people outside of the club and to preserve Jakuan for the next generation of tea practitioners.” |

Kara Shaw is a senior and is a dual major in Business Management and Korean Flagship. She was the previous ASAN 324 TA for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.
"I am originally from a small rural town in Oregon, so appreciating the small things amongst the ordinary is second nature to me. So, you will often find me lost in thought while finding flowers around campus. And it truly is a treat to be able to smell the damp earth after a rain shower with a flower in my hand, heading back to Jakuan. Chado requires you to enjoy with all your senses, and to me, seeing the tea club members smile fills me more than all the sweets I steal from the refrigerator.” |
